ECN meeting takes a snapshot of the local tourism industry

Tourism was the focus of the first Enterprise Champions Networking function at Canterbury Development Corporation on 27 February.

Guest speakers from the industry gave a snapshot look into their core business and how they fit into the local tourism sector. The function provided a platform for teachers and Principals involved in the enterprise programme to make connections with people in industry. One teacher from Ashburton commented that the event enabled her to make several key contacts to be able to organise a cross-curricula project for her year 10 students.

Outside The Square thanks the guest speakers from the Copthorne Hotel, Antarctic Centre Visitors Centre, the Christchurch Visitor Strategy at the council, Sky Diving NZ and Alpine Pacific Tourism.

These meetings are informal and held each term to provide networking opportunities for ECN teachers, Principals and members of the business community. A different industry sector is highlighted each time that has relevance to the curriculum and can assist to effect real and authentic learning in schools.

They have proved extremely valuable to teachers for sharing information and ideas, explore opportunities and getting to know and make business contacts. Drinks and nibbles are provided and the meetings are now held at Canterbury Development Corporation.
