The Wolves Lair project is inspired by the ‘Dragon’s Den’ TV series where budding entrepreneurs pitch their innovative ideas in hope that they will receive investment for their product.
This project is being piloted in schools in 2008/09, with a national roll out to all schools in 2010. The programme is being developed in partnership with the National Bank of New Zealand, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, the Ministry of Education and The Small Business Company. It is designed for level 6 of the New Zealand curriculum and it will be the teachers who will drive the final delivery.
In Term 2 2008, we piloted the initial resources with 6 Auckland secondary schools. We had a variety of positive responses to the project and saw an opportunity to utilise the remainder of the year by piloting a variation of the resources with Christchurch schools. Essentially, we have taken the resources (approx 80-100 hours worth!) and created a 12 lesson package that teachers can pick up and run with! It provides a quick and easy way to get schools engaged in the wider project and will also provide us with some valuable feedback about the process.
In 2009 we are focusing on linking existing Achievement Standards with this resource and providing further opportunities for real Wolves Lair panels to respond to entrepreneurial ideas. These teaching resources will eventually be part of a larger ‘Youth Enterprise Portal’ able to be accessed to by all budding young entrepreneurs.
